Mrs. Girtie "MaMa" Christmas Wimmer Compton age 88, passed away Wednesday morning in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Whitewood, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Riley and Laura White Wimmer both Whitewood, Virginia natives. She was a lifelong resident of the Whitewood area and a homemaker. She was of the Church of Christ Faith and loved to Crochet and Quilt.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Compton, one granddaughter, Beverly Dawn Compton; 3 sisters: Elmer Street, Willie Mae Hagerman, Madge Cole; 3 Brothers: Marvin, Eulis and Carl Wimmer.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Girtie "MaMa" Christmas Wimmer Compton will be conducted Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Jack Ward and Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Interment will follow at the Compton Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain near Whitewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Compton, Clyde Compton, Elmer Compton, Jr. Thurman Compton, Wayne Compton, Floyd Lester, Mike Lyons and Barry Patton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Susan Lyons, George McCall III, Tom Bays, Rick Vernon, Steve Miller, Kyle Robinson, Karl Robinson, Kendall Robinson, Nathan Robinson, Mark Robinson, Dr. Patrick Wallace, Dr. Steve Prince, Dr. Joe Rupe and Donald Wimmer, and Ann Lester. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia, Thursday and Friday evening after 6:00 p.m.
