Vicie Church Compton, age 92, of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, Virginia.

She was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Frank and Cordelia Viars Church. Vicie worked as a custodian at Whitewood High School in Whitewood, Virginia. She was a lifelong resident of the Pilgrims Knob area and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer T. Compton; two sons, Benjamin Darrell Compton and Johnny Compton; one grandson, Archie Compton; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Compton; and several brothers and sisters.

Wayne Compton and wife, Paula of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral service for Vicie Church Compton will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Compton Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain near Whitewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Connor Compton, Ben Compton, Bear Compton, Brandon Blankenship, Mike Compton, Scotty Compton and Bo Lester. The Compton family will receive friends from 6:00 pm ? 9:00 pm on Thursday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street; Richlands, Virginia.
