Luther S. Hubbell moved to Illinois in 1852 along with his wife Eliza and nine children: George Thomas, John Francis, Ephraim, Joseph Oscar, Francis Marion, Mary Ellen, Sarah Jane, James Luther and Paris Brown (was born in 52).     After a few years on rent land in both Wapella and Wilson townships he purchased 120 acre farm in Wapella Township and additional acres in Wilson Township. They were devoted members of the Christian church at Long Point. Luther worked for Lincoln's campaign even prior to his election as president. He is buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery. James Luther and Elizabeth Cunningham were married October 25, 1870 their children mostly remained in DeWitt county and several of their descendents remain in the county today. Eliza Troxel, Sarah Hedrick, Fred, Nora Short and Ab lived their lives in DeWitt County; another brother, John Albert, was a minister and retired in McLean County. Cora Barnett lived in McLean County all her life after she was married. The daughter' names include there married name. Ephraim Hubbell was killed in the Battle of Shiloh his body was retrieved and buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
