Death Of Mrs. Mary Barnes
Widow of Physician at Lincoln's Deathbed Victim of Heart Disease
Mrs. Mary T. Barnes, 88 years old, widow of former Surgeon General Barnes and one of the most popular hostesses in official circles of Washington during Civil War and reconstruction days died Monday afternoon at her home, 1722 M Street Northwest. She was a victim of heart disease and died suddenly.

Mrs. Barnes was married to General Joseph T. Barnes when she was but 16 years old. The couple came to Washington before the Civil War and General Barnes was the physician at the deathbed of President Lincoln.

The funeral will be held today, the Rev. Roland Cotton Smith, rector of St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery (findagrave.com)
