Buried Linden Hill Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY on 7/1/1903 or 7/1/1905. Probably 1905 as his granddaughter Lydia claimed she lived with her grandfather until he died when she was sixteen. Lydia was born 1890 (Letter from Lydia Hansler to Edith (Schweikert) Dunscombe, June 16, 1977).
Came to America from Germany as a young man (1849) and worked on farms in the West for several years. Then he settled in New York City where he earned enough money to send for his sweetheart. They both joined the Methodist Church, having been Lutherans before and lived on the southern end of Manhattan.
His granddaughter Lydia claimed Andrew's ancestors came from Austria, then moved to the northern part of Germany, the Black Forest, although the census material claims they came from Baden (Black Forest area, southwest Germany).
1900 census claims he is a widower, but cemetery records show his wife Barbara died 1904. 1870 census does not show Barbara, but does show an adult woman named Catharine Hansler, age 47. Perhaps a sister?
Death record states estimated birth year as 1827.
