John worked in the oil business in Florida. The couple had no children. A Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Second World War; 34th Division, serving in Italy.
John and Kit were passengers aboard the cruise ship Viking Princess when it caught fire on April 8, 1966 about fifty miles southeast of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Two passengers died and eleven were reported missing in an April 8, 1966 New York Times article. The Times noted "Mrs. John Dunscomb (sic) also of Fort Lauderdale, joined in praising the captain and crew. She said: "The crew kept telling everyone "don't panic, everything is all right." We knew our stations. We knew where we had to go and everything was well handled. We had a good drill just the day before."
