Patrick J. Hamill, age 80, of Mahopac, NY passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. He was born in Brooklyn on July 30, 1939, the son of Patrick and Katherine (McGrath) Hamill.
Patrick served in the US Naval Reserve of which he was honorably discharged. In 1962, he was appointed to the NYPD as a police officer assigned in Brooklyn where he worked for five years. In 1967, he was appointed to the FDNY as a firefighter, earning the rank of Lieutenant. At the time of his retirement in September 1989, he was serving at 89 Engine – Ladder 50 in the Bronx. Patrick was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac, and a member of the Putnam County Fish and Game Club.
On October 22, 1967, he married Barbara J. Dunscombe at St. Francis Assisi Church in Brooklyn. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his son, Patrick of Mahopac, his daughters, Jacqueline Colonna and her husband, Michael of Fairfax Station, VA and Teresa Hamill of Mahopac, his brothers, Paul and James of Yonkers, NY and his five beloved grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Christina, Katherine and Sean. He was predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen Dragan and Patricia Hamill.
A private interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. A Mass to celebrate Patrick’s life will be announced at a later date when we can all safely gather together again.
