Robert was born in Postingford, Suffolk, England and Christened on 3 June 1580. Robert died in either 1664 or 1665. Robert sailed from Cowes, Isle of Wright with the Winthrop Fleet on the ship Arabella. They landed at Salem, Mass on June 17, 1630 with 76 passengers. He settled with his son Thomas in Wethersfield, CT in 1640 and was deputy to the General Court in 1641-42. He moved to Pequot (now New London) in 1649. His barn was used as the first house of worship in the new town and the call of service was by the beat of a drum. He finally settled in Mystic, Stonington Co., CT and was appointed by the General Court to an official position in the organization of the town of Southertown in 1658. He was a personal friend of John Winthrop to whom he addressed a letter in 1629-30. A photo copy of the letter is preserved in the Winthrop collection at Harvadr University Library.
