John Corwin Emerson Taylor was Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Trinity College in Hartford, and a accomplished artist.

He studied at The Groton School and received his B.A. and his M.A. at Yale University, and studied at the Académie Julian in Paris.

Prof. Taylor was a member of the Hartford Fine Arts Commission, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Rockport Art Association and the Society of Colonial Wars.

He taught at Trinity 1941-70, and served as Department Chair 1945-64. As an art history professor, he was knowledgable, engaging and articulate, and his classes were a revelation to many of his students.

Prof. Taylor designed several pew ends in the noted Trinity College Chapel, and his design work was also found at St. James Episcopal Church in Glastonbury and St. Mary-by-the-Sea in the Fenwick section of Old Saybrook (findagrave.com)
