The Rev. Arthur M. ROMIG died on December 7, 1995 of Lou Gehrig's Disease.

A minister and former missionary to China for the Presbyterian Church (USA), he served as Presbyterian Executive for the Presbytery of Washington, D.C., and for the Presbytery of Scioto Valley (Ohio) as pastor in Dayton, Lima, and Portsmouth in Ohio, and in Oakland, California. After retirement he continued active in part-time and interim pastoral work in Westerville, Delaware and Columbus, Ohio and in Santa Fe, New Mexico, retiring a final time at age 85 after 64 years of active ministry.

Mr. ROMIG was born to Presbyterian missionary parents in Taian, Shandong Province, China. His early education was at the North China American School near Beijing. He was a 1928 graduate of The College of Wooster (Ohio) and after graduation from Princeton Theological Seminary was ordained in 1931 as an Evangelist for the Presbyterian Church.

He returned to China with his bride expecting to live and work there for the rest of his life. During World War II he was held under house detention by the Japanese and was repatriated to the USA in 1942. In 1981 and again in 1984 he was able to revisit his roots in China. In 1993 he published "To Bend and Rise as the Bamboo" a collection of letters from the China years

He is survived by his wife, Helen Anderson ROMIG; 5 children: Elizabeth-Ann NICHOLSON of Seattle, Washington; Dr. Donald A. ROMIG of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Marilie G. BLANCHARD of Louisville, Kentucky, Margaret H. HAGAMAN of Menomonie, Wisconsin and Clifton C. ROMIG of Lafayette, California; his sister, Ruth I. BOLTON of Corwin Springs, Montana; brother, Joseph A. ROMIG of Houghton, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
