SPALDING, Oakes Ames, Jr. 84, died January 11, 2016 of cancer at his home in Cambridge surrounded by his wife and their three children. He attended Milton Academy class of 1949, Harvard College class of 1953, and the Harvard Business School class of 1960. He served for four years in the United States Navy. As a securities analyst he was a partner at Estabrook and Co. and Managing Director at Adams, Harkness and Hill where he founded the 100 Emerging Growth Stocks product. He was a lifetime learner as well as a gifted teacher and mentor to many financial analysts at the beginning of their successful careers. He retired from Wellington Management. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Monique (Chamberlin) Spalding and their 3 children: Oakes Ames Spalding, III and his wife, Julie Vollgraff, Lucienne Spalding Schroepfer and her husband, William, and Timothy Edward Spalding and his wife, Lisa Carey. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Lydia, Oliver, Crispin and Edmund Spalding of Chicago, IL, Otto, Guillemette and Cecilia Schroepfer of St. Paul, MN, and Liam Spalding of Portland, ME. Oakes spent the final year of his life compiling an extensive genealogy of his ancestors consisting of over 1000 pages of biographies and charts all meticulously researched. He had a lifelong interest in classical music, art and history. In later life he became a full-time member of the New England birding community. There will be a family burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in the spring.
