William Ely died A.D. 1760. "He was among the first who gave Freedom to his slaves, therein doing as he would be done by. He had ten children whose posterity is numerous. Richard Ely, our great ancestor, died about the year 1690. He was the father of William & Richard & Grandfather of William. His descendents, besides peopling these mansions of the dead, are greatly multiplied in the land."

He was the son of William & Elizabeth (Smith) Ely; he married Mary Noyse first and Hannah Thompson on October 25, 1715.

William Ely Jr. was b. abt 1695 in Lyme, New London, Conn. and d. 30 Oct 1858 in Lyme, New London, Conn.

He married 1st Mary Hudson widow of Dr. John Nyes on 14 Dec 1732. He d. 5 Aug 1733. She was with child when he died, but the child did not live. She was the daughter of Nathaniel and Rachel (Scovel) Hudson.
