DUNCAN NOBLE, a resident of Houston since 1962, died Monday, December 11, 1995 in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born September 3, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. He enrolled at the University of Michigan. interrupting his studies for a year with the American Field Service in Europe prior to receiving his BBA from the University in 1947. After working three years in Ann Arbor and Venezuela, he attended the University of Michigan Law School where he was on the staff of the Michigan Law review and a member of COIF. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan in 1953. In 1954 he received an MA from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where he specialized in international economics. He married Anne Merrill Griswold at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seal Cove, Maine on July 24, 1954 and joined the law department of Gulf Oil. He spent three years in Venezuela, was transferred to New York and then Pittsburgh. In 1962 he left Gulf Oil Company. joining a Houston Law firm where he became a senior partner. He represented American interests making direct foreign investments in the oil and gas industries, travelling extensively all over the world. Skilled in understanding foreign cultures and explaining them to his clients and explaining the clients' cultures to foreigners. He spoke. read, and wrote Spanish fluently. He retired in 1980. Mr. Noble is survived by his wife. Anne; daughter, Anne Noble Thym and her husband; son, Roger G. Noble and his wife; three grandchildren, Margaret Thym, James Noble, and Halle Noble; his sister, Charlotte Fenheim; and two nephews. Duncan and Peter Darrow. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, December 16, 1995 in the Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. In August, 1996 a memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Seal Cove, Maine. Burial will be next to his oldest son, Duncan, in Pretty Marsh Cemetery in Maine.
