Halsey Rogers Wing was the great grandson of Abraham Wing, the founding father of
Queensbury and Glens Falls. He was born in Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls) on July 9, 1809 and
died in Glens Falls on January 26, 1870. At age sixteen, Halsey attended Academy in Lenox, MA;
then Yale University and Middleberry College, where he graduated in 1832. He then studied
law in Albany and was admitted to the bar in 1834. He worked in Albany, Brockport and Buffalo
returning to Glens Falls in 1841 following a financial collapse in Buffalo. He then worked for the
Federal Court as a Solicitor and Counselor in Chancery. Halsey was also, the Warren County
superintendent of Common Schools and inspector of the schools, town justice of the peace and
Warren County Court Judge.
