In her1912 marriage addadavit to Frederick E. Brooks, she states that it is her third marriage, with two prior husbands dead and having been divorced from the later one. But she is using the surname of Hayes, which would indicte she had been married three prior times (Porter, Hayes, Chase) and A. H. Chase who she married in 1909, did not die until 1917. She states the divorce was in 1910. It is apparent the Hayes marriage came in between the Porter and Chase ones, and she just dropped the Chase name after the divorce. This was likely the case since she is listed in the 1905 NYS Census as Nellie Hayes, living with her 26 year-old son Albert Porter.
Asaheal Chase had previously been married to Lucy Anna Stewart, Nellie's aunt.
