Killed in battle.
Elected King in 922 in rivalry to the ineffective Charles the Simple. Killed in battle at Soissons in June 923. His son-in-law Raoul of Burgundy, the husband of his daughter Emma, was then elected King in 923 and soon thereafter succeeded in capturing Charles the Simple and imprisoning him at Peronne until his death in 929. Raoul ruled until his death in 935, when Robert's son Hugh the Great brought Charles the Simple's son Louis IV back form exile in England and set him on the throne.
