Guardian of Scotland under Queen Margaret, 1286. Partisan of Bruce, made treaty with France, 1295, but came to terms with Edward I, 1297. Sent to negotiate with Wallace before the battle of Stirling, 1297. Joined him afterwards. Envoy to France, 1302.
