Walter de Chauncy, Baron and lord of the manor of Skirpenbeck, was son and heir of William de Chauncy. In 1131, in the 31st year of the reign of King Henry I, he gave 15 pounds to the king for license to marry who he desired, and married Alicia, the oldest sister of William Fitz Helte.

Walter de Chauncy died sometime before his son and heir, Anfride de Chauncy, paid an assessment of five knight's fees for the barony of Skirpenbeck in 1157 in the 12th year of the reign of King Henry II; his estimated year of birth given the 15 pounds he paid for marriage in 1131 is about 1105.

Though no burial marker survives, it is likely that Walter de Chauncy died in the manor of Skirpenbeck and was buried in the churchyard of St. Mary parish in Skirpenbeck.
