HARDER--Henry U., 79, of Yarmouth, ME died at home on September 6, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in NYC on March 9th, 1925, he was the son of Gertrude U. Harris and Lewis F. Harder. He lived for many years in Greenwich, CT before retiring to Maine. Upper Saranac Lake, NY was his summer retreat. Graduating from St. Marks School in Southboro, MA, 1943, he joined the Navy serving as Lt. j.g. and Naval Aviator. He graduated from Yale, Class of 1945W. Henry joined the insurance firm of Chubb & Son in July of 1948, became President in October of 1972, and was CEO from 1980-1988 when he retired. He served as a trustee of St. George's School for 20 years. Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Calista Lincoln, five children: Fred and his wife, Karin, of Mercer Island, WA; Trudy Briggs and her husband Jim, of Pownal, ME; Calista Hollyer and her husband, Jan; Holly Catlin and her husband, Bruce; Maj. Henry U. Harder, Jr.,Vermont Air National Guard and his wife Natalie, all of Vermont. Henry was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren. Henry is survived by a brother, Philip, three sisters, Avery Kennedy, Cynthia Murray, Jenepher Parr and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lewis and John. A memorial service took place in Yarmouth at St. Bartholomew's Church on September 11, 2004, a service will also take place next summer in the Adirondacks.
